Just after we have finished the Christmas period we begin thinking about the New Year and with that comes New Year’s Resolutions…We all make them and probably over half of us will fail within the first 2 months..I have compiled a list of business resolutions for 2013..have a look and see which ones you have tried and tested and which ones you could actually keep instead of leaving until next year.
This is one of the most popular New Year’s Resolution and probably the hardest to stick to. Imagine if you do quit the extra time you would have to benefit your business, instead of nipping outside for a cigarette. A lot of us want to quit and with a large majority of the population still smoking, what really helps us kick the habit..As a ex smoker myself I found it easier to quit this time round. Having tried it a few times before without help I always failed so this time I used some nicotine replacement therapies which helped me a lot. and without blowing my own trumpet it has now been over a year :)
This is another hard resolution but like quitting smoking it will benefit your body, health, and increase life expectancy. If you find it hard to quit altogether just cut down to begin with, an odd glass of wine or a beer won’t do too much harm, however turning up for work hung over again will obviously have a detrimental affect on your productivity.
We all try this one…I try to not just as a resolution but as a weekly task. Sometimes you find if you manage to achieve the two above you will already be saving yourself money ..Use this as an incentive. Check your electricity and phone bills at work and make sure you are getting a good deal. Save the money in a pot and buy something as a treat or have a work activity day out.
This is a good one for a fresh new you or just a little reinvention of your former self..Learning something new will not only boost your confidence, it may help you develop and improve your career. Start a training course or join a class of interest and try keeping it up and you never know you may end of with a qualification and a wealth of knowledge to share with your colleagues.
If you are lucky enough to already be fit, especially after the Christmas celebrations then I don’t expect this would be a Resolution more like a routine or ritual. Getting fit is another matter. Being healthier is a good idea for everyone..even if it means you walk to work or to the train station. It all helps and it may help shift those extra pounds after the Christmas period :) Don’t forget exercise boosts your endorphins and helps put that smile back on your face if you are feeling slightly deflated after all the celebrations. The world is a wonderful place so instead of driving to work try walking instead, or if you go by bus get off a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
This is a lovely little Resolution. Not only can you help out those less fortunate than yourselves you can also make a difference. Even if you volunteer for a few hours a month, it will help and imagine how good you will feel about yourself!! It will also look great for your company image.
Sounds simple however if you are anything like me, you may worry about the minor things in life. Use 2013 as a start to relax more and enjoy life’s free simple little pleasures and even indulge in some Yoga!! Work can be a stressful place so learn to prioritise your work-load. Getting stress will not solve anything and will probably hinder you rather than achieve anything.
