Koh Samui is definitely the most popular and the most beautiful island in Thailand and here are some reasons for you to make a visit to Koh Samui.

Stunning beaches

The picturesque blue water outlining the white sandy beaches is undisputedly one of the main reasons that one should visit Koh Samui. You can relax by the beach as you feel the warm sun on your skin and enjoy the breath-taking view of the Indian Ocean merging into the horizon. There are many restaurants, street food vendors and Chaweng Beach resorts livening up the coastline, which is a great part of hanging around by the beach. You can get all the food you love and not leave the beach and enjoy quality time relaxing and eating.

Temples and religious locations

The Big Buddha statue is one of the most iconic locations in Koh Samui. It is also one of the old temples. The 12 meters tall seated Buddha Statue is located on a unique location making it the first attraction you can see as you fly into the island. There are many devotees who come into the temple for their offerings to Buddha. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations so it is important to be mindful not to visit the temple on holidays or weekends.

Bophut Village

This village is a beautiful little village that is the perfect place to go to in order to experience cultural and traditional practices in Koh Samui. The village is a fishing village and still practice the livelihood, traditions, and cultures that have been practicing within the families for many years. This little rustic village is located on the Northern side of the island. If you are in Samui on a Friday it is perfect as the village hosts a market space where anyone can purchase anything and taste different kinds of food. If you are staying at a location such as the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort you can request a guided tour to be arranged.

The Mummy

The mummified body of the late priest Luong Pordaeng who is said to have died peacefully during his meditation is known to be one of the most significant attractions in Koh Samui. The mummified decaying body shows little signs of decaying even after so many years. Apart from the mummified display, the temple itself is absolutely stunning as it is located in a stunning surrounding.

Markets and shopping

It is no surprise that Koh Samui has several daytime markets and night markets. There are many different stalls and vendors that you can visit in order to try out different food, buy souvenirs and even gifts. The stalls vary from fruits, vegetables, clothing, accessories, bags, jewellery, and even carpets. The markets are the place to bargain as most of them quote higher prices to foreigners. If you are willing to try out different food then the markets are the perfect place as there are so many different street food vendors at these markets. The locals tend to get a snack or a drink and walk around the markets.

Retail therapy

If you are not a fan of shopping at the markets and prefer shopping malls then you are in luck as Koh Samui is one of the few islands in Thailand that can boast about a luxurious shopping mall with international and local brands.
