Top Art Galleries in Brisbane - Inspirational Attractions

Brisbane is home to a number of top galleries and museum. Most are free of charge to enter and make ideal family attractions. Enjoy the fascinating exhibits as you wander the streets of sunny Brisbane.

The Queensland Art Gallery

Australian artworks from the time of its European occupation to the swinging '70s are chronicled at the museum. There are also a number of international and Asian artistic objects displayed there. A beautiful range of artefacts occupy the museum; expect to browse through creative items such as pottery, furniture, photography, textiles and paper creations. The museum is quite gargantuan in size with many display rooms; hence it is wise to hook up with one of the volunteer guides available between 11 am and 2 pm. Located on South Bank entrance to the museum is free. It is open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Gallery of Modern Art

Before setting off on a cultural trail get settled in a comfortable Milton hotel in Brisbane; consider one that is centrally placed and preferably offers serviced apartments in Brisbane. These allow you to move about to your own schedule with all the comforts and conveniences of home. Centrally placed within the Brisbane CBD is The Milton Brisbane, for instance. The Gallery of Modern Art or GoMA has many interesting seasonal exhibits such as visually inspiring exhibits, political satire and propaganda. The latest rage at the gallery is the interactive activity at the galleries 'Children's Centre'. There the challenge is on to create an extraordinary bird in the 'Fly Away Home' nest like exhibit corner. This is on until September 2016. This gallery is located at Stanley Place on South Bank and once again entrance is free. Open hours are from 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 5 pm Saturday.

QUT Art Museum

Emphasising on modern 1960's art this museum is supported by the Queensland University of Technology. There are over 3000 fabulous exhibits there which comprise of sculptures, paintings and decorative art. The collection covers the work of both Australian and international artists.

The museum is located at Main Dve, QUT Gardens Point Campus on George Street. It is open on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 pm and Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Entrance is free.

The William Robinson Gallery

The best work of Brisbane's iconic artist William Robinson is displayed in an upstairs bedroom of a Government House. This twice honoured landscape artist was awarded the Archibald Award. The 1862 vintage government house is well restored and open to the visitors; where they may browse and enjoy the vintage artefacts there - apart from the marvellous paintings of William Robinson. The 'Virtual Household' exhibit is of special interest to the whole family since it is a recreation of the house as it would have been in the 19th century. The Old Govt House is located at Main Dve, Gardens Point Campus on George Street. Entrance is free with open times being from Saturday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.

The City Sounds

This is Australia's largest free music program. It has been the platform for the country's up and coming musicians. If you would love some local music, you can take part in the City Sounds. The City Sounds always encourages music talent on the public platform.
