05 Must Visit Historical Places in Macau For the history buffs!

Historical places serve as testimonies of the times gone by. If you're interested in visiting historical places when you are in Macau, here's a list of the five epic places to visit.

Mandarin's House

This house was built back in 1869 and serves as an iconic historical complex. The house occupies around four thousand square meters of land and is inbuilt with about sixty rooms. A residence of this calibre is quite a rare sight in Macau. The architecture takes inspiration from the traditional Chinese buildings and is fused with some western ideas. Thus, the place is a treat for lovers of architecture. Moreover, the complex is home to some peaceful courtyards, moon gate, main hall and some beautiful luxury rooms. The Mandarin's house was reconstructed with some restoration work which finished in 2010. You can still witness the original works even today.

A-Ma Temple

The A-Ma Temple in Macau is one of the ancient temples which has been built in dedication to the goddess of fisherman and seafarers. When at the temple, you can also see the Memorial Arch, Gate Pavillion, the Hall of Benevolence, the prayer hall, Zhengjiao Chanlin and the Hall of Guanyin. There are lots of things to see when at the temple. Guia Fortress

Another historic building well worth a visit is the Guia Fortress located at the tallest point in the peninsula. As such, the place boasts of some brilliant panoramic sights of Macau. You can get to the fortress via cable cars. Atop, you can locate a beautiful chapel called the Chapel of Lady of Guia which was built back in 1622.

Dom Pedro V Theatre

How about visiting an Opera House when in Macau? The Dom Pedro V Theatre was established in 1858 which is also the first theatre of western roots to be available in the country, China. The classical theatre is designed in green and white. The Portuguese architect's theatre now serves as an important landmark and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Having said that, the theatre is still functional today where important celebrations and events take place here. Initially, the theatre was used as a place for plays, operas, and concerts. Later on, adult shows like "Crazy Paris Shows' took place here.

Largo de Santo Agostinho

The Largo de Santo Agostinho is situated at the centre of the town square of Macau. This establishment also has another name and it was used to be known as the Leal Senado meaning Loyal Senate. This building was established in 1784 making it the first municipal council chamber of Macau. Again, this building takes architectural inspiration from Neoclassical designs. And importantly, the building has retained most of the original works on the walls and layout. Today you can see, Gallery holding frequent exhibitions and a library having many of these profound works between 17th and 20th century. In addition, the place also has a chapel at its auditorium. For some quiet peaceful time, you can visit the courtyard with its very own flower nurseries located behind the establishment.
