Over the years Abu Dhabi has developed in to one of the best holiday destinations across the world for because hospitality, culture, wide variety of entertainment options and fast paced races.

It's the epicentre of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and is responsible for 2/3 of its economy which is worth USD400 billion. It is home to some of the regions most prestigious tourist venues like Ferrari world, a Ferrari themed park which has the world's fastest rollercoaster. The Yas island which is home to Yas Marina Circuit hosts a yearly Grand Prix event named the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which sees racers, fans and international performing artists from all over the world.

The Pearl business was very popular in the past

Pearls were one of Abu Dhabi's main industries in the past. The region around the Persian Gulf was a hotbed for pearling according to people in the industry. The divers that searched for pearls would stay submerged for about 1 ½ minutes and would take about 30 dives for a day. When the trade started oxygen tanks and other diving related gear weren't used by the divers. They weren't evenpaid only a monthly basis but got part of earnings from the profit earned for that season.

Oil was discovered in the region 1950s

The pearl industries decline in Abu Dhabi started during the 1930s. They had an uneasy relationship with Iran, their neighbouring country because they had disputes over the Gulf islands. As the pearl industry started declining the area discovered that had a huge supply of natural oil. The country was in a dire situation with one of their main income sources declining. The countries economy saw a major boost after discovering oil during the 1950s which they started importing in 1962. Since then the country has diversified its economy and transformed itself in to one of the world's leading tourist destinations.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

At a length of over 400 metres and having the capacity to accommodate more than 40,000 devotees, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the biggest mosques in the world. The construction of this surreal mosque started in 1996 under the patronage of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and completed in 2007. It is one of the most popular destinations for visitors staying in one of the chic hotels in the city similar to Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara and wants to go sightseeing in Abu Dhabi. Be sure to dress conservatively when visiting the mosque as it is one of the most revered places in the country. Women have to wear a scarf to cover their head and the mosque offers abayas that you can wear while visiting the mosque. Unlike most of the places in the city, there is no charge for visiting the mosque. Make sure to take the guided tour that happens at various times throughout the day as it is informative and will answer any questions you have.

Nature

The deserts in Abu Dhabi are one of the things the country is most known for. But the country has more than 2,000 well-maintained gardens and parks. It also has several stunning beaches that will suit whatever you're looking for in a beach.
