At a length of over 400 metres and having the capacity to accommodate more than 40,000 devotees, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the biggest mosques in the world. The construction of this surreal mosque started in 1996 under the patronage of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and completed in 2007. It is one of the most popular destinations for visitors staying in one of the chic hotels in the city similar to Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara and wants to go sightseeing in Abu Dhabi. Be sure to dress conservatively when visiting the mosque as it is one of the most revered places in the country. Women have to wear a scarf to cover their head and the mosque offers abayas that you can wear while visiting the mosque. Unlike most of the places in the city, there is no charge for visiting the mosque. Make sure to take the guided tour that happens at various times throughout the day as it is informative and will answer any questions you have.
