Essential medicine to take when going on a trip - Health First!

Would you like a minor ailment to ruin your whole trip? Well, nobody wants it. So, if you want to keep these maladies at bay, make room in your luggage for a few over-the-counter medications.

1

Mild Laxative

Ever heard of vacation constipation? Well, it is real. Travelling gets in the way of your routine – it changes your diet, you are not in your comfort zone anymore – and this can cause vacation constipation. Of course, you can eat fibre rich food and prevent this, but to be on the safe side, throw some laxatives in there.

2

Antidiarrheal

Just like constipation, travellers' diarrhoea can be a real soul sucker. More than likely, if you are suffering from diarrhoea, there's no way you can run around looking for a pharmacy. So, keep some antidiarrheal close at hand.

3

Mild pain relievers

After dragging your luggage around the airport, you might end up feeling a little bit sore. Motrin is something that will come in handy if you are suffering from soreness. If you have a headache, however, you need to keep some Tylenol with you. Most of the time you can find these pain relievers in your hotel room, for example, if you go to a hotel Seychelles Praslin – a place that can be likened to Berjaya Praslin Resort – you will find these over the counter medications.

4

Anti-itch cream

If you are planning to travel to a region that's prone to mosquitos, make sure you throw an anti-itch cream into your travel first-aid kit.

5

Antibacterial gel

You might have plans to hang around the beach all day and do all kinds of water sports, if this is the case, don't forget to take an antibacterial gel at all times with you.

6

Band-aids

You can find a roll of band-aid, but to be on the safe side, take one with you as you are at the risk of getting blisters, shaving cuts and other minor issues like that.

7

Cipro

This is an all-rounder which can cure a spectrum of ailments. It is known as the traveller's antibiotic. But make sure you follow the doctor's instructions.

8

Vitamins

The chances are your diet is going to fly out of the window when you are holidaying. To balance out your nutritional intake, take some vitamins with you.

9

Water tablets

In most countries, you can buy bottled water, but if you are travelling to remote areas, bring some water tablets with you to maintain your body fluid intake.

10

Cold/Flu medication

Pack some of these if you think you might get a cold or flu

11

Diamox

If your travel destination is a high-altitude location, be sure you have altitude sickness medication. Especially if you are travelling to China or Hong Kong as you can't get these there.

12

Yeast infection medication

Get a tablet rather than a cream for ease of carriage. Oral medications such as fluconazole is something you can get over the counter.
