Top 05 Kitesurfing Tips for Beginners – How to Fly Across the Ocean

Kitesurfing is a very thrilling sport; the feeling of skimming across the ocean the wind whipping your hair is awesome. If you are a beginner, there really isn't anything very complicated to mastering the art of kitesurfing, as the following tips explain.

1

Never Pull the Bar

Perhaps the most important tip in mastering kitesurfing, you will be repeatedly told to not pull the bar by your instructor. If you are planning a holiday at a Mui Ne resort chances are there will be plenty of kitesurfing schools in the vicinity, places like Anantara Mui Ne Resort hugging the shoreline are great places to practise kitesurfing for which Mui Ne is a world no 1 spot. Well, as for the bar, when you pull on it you give more power to the kite, thus propelling you faster, a recipe for disaster if you are heading for a crash. The best option is to push the bar away from you, giving the kite slack and slowing you down.

2

Check your Hand Position

Do not hold the bar with your hands placed at the edges, this makes the kite very sensitive at the turns. Besides, this manoeuvre will hamper you flying the kite with one hand, as the other hand on the extreme corner will influence the kite to turn a sharp right or left (depending on which side your hand is); keeping the hands centred on the bar, will help, especially when trying to keep the kite up at 12 o'clock position.

3

Keep the Tension in the steering Lines

Keeping some tension in your steering lines helps you fly the kite even after releasing the bar. Make sure to have tension on at least one of the steering lines, which helps you, in time, to have a general idea of where the kite is in the sky. Many first-timers often complain of stiff necks from staring up to determine the position of the kite. Have fun folks!

4

When Landing and Re-launching the Bar Must be Released

This is essential, since releasing the bar completely will deflate the power from your kite, releasing the tension from the lines. This will, in turn, stop you from getting dragged by the kite when re-launching or landing. The beach is the safest place from which to land and re-launch, make sure the kite is fully de-powered and bring it gently and slowly to the edge of the window (9 or 3 o'clock).

5

The Chest Should be Facing the Kite

It is important you stand slightly pulled back from your kite, lean back to make sure you don't get pulled downwind. If you stand upright, your weight will cause you to be pulled unnecessarily. By pulling back you can use your body like a harness to manoeuvre the kite; make sure your footing is solid by having your feet at shoulder width on the board, thus creating a strong base.
