Tianjin a top tourist destination; has its share of iconic attractions like Five Great Avenues and Ancient Culture Street etc. But, exploring the 'unusual' side of Tianjin will treat you to lesser-known pleasures, gems in the rough which will turn out to be equally fascinating. Here they are.

The Tianjin Opera Museum

This museum started out as a highly decorated guild hall; built-in 1907 the complex has been frequented by radicals from far back as Guangdong. Hence the lovely Opera Museum features a traditional Guangdong style courtyard and is a popular hub for discovering the history behind Tianjin Opera and even its most famous performers. If you would love to catch a live performance, your trip should be planned around March and April.

Cangmenkou Church

Located on Gulon Street, this Christian church is unique to the area which was said to be founded by a Chinaman rather than a colonist or westerner. The church is located close to the Drum Tower and is a warehouse-like complex which still celebrates Christmas. You will love the vintage setting of a wooden floor and vintage wooden chairs and. A must visit one in Tianjin for that step-back in time experience.

The Porcelain House

The Museum of pottery and antiques is located in a former colonial building. Established by the present owner, this museum displays over 700 million porcelain artefacts. The place is literally festooned from roof to ceiling with all manner of porcelain, with even the roof decorated with an elaborate dragon. The Porcelain House Museum is located 12 minutes from Somerset Olympic Tower Tianjin, a good locale to look for a serviced residence in Tianjin.

Tianjin Radio and TV Tower

Known as one of the world's tallest free-standing towers, the Tianjin TV and Radio Tower is 1,360 feet tall. From the top, you are rewarded with fabulous 360-degree views of the surroundings. There you can stop for a meal at the revolving restaurant. Built in 1991 this modern tower is often over-looked, hence, it's worth is highly underappreciated, but if you are a photographer or serious Instagrammer, don't miss out on the fab photo opportunities.

Yangcun Village Small World Park

Here's a good place to plan a day out to; the layout of the park is pretty impressive, as it emulates the worlds tectonic plates. There you are treated to sights of a few of the world's most iconic structures, such as Mount Everest and the Eiffel Tower; there are about 115 such landmarks to observe. Famous attractions cum landmarks from about 80 countries are showcased at this park, enabling you to explore the world in one day.

Peoples Park

Go on and take a trip to the outskirts; helping you escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Tianjin the Hexi district located in the outskirts is where the Tianjin Peoples Park awaits. A beautiful vintage traditional Chinese garden type park, the place is favoured by joggers, dancing groups and elderly citizen's hankering for some fresh air. The park is also perfect for a spot of boating on the lake.
