This was opened back in 2002 to celebrate 100 years of federation, however, it was something that divided Melburnians. Some loved it, while some others hated it. No matter the general consensus, today, the Federation Square has become an important aspect of the city and is an excellent place for tourists to begin their tour of Melbourne. This can be found right opposite Flinders Street Station which is a major transport hub. One of its striking features is its ultra-modern design that utilizes open and closed spaces which contrast with all the Victorian architecture that surrounds it. The central outdoor performance space along with its intimate indoor venues are as busy as can be, hosting over 2,000 annual events, making entertainment always accessible. Also included in the Federation Square is the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, which is dedicated to Australian Art as well as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). If all that doesn't have you interested enough, the "Fed Square" as most people refer to it, is also one of the largest free sites for Wi-Fi in the whole country.
