The former capital of Myanmar manages to enthral its visitors with its many attractions. For those who haven't made up their mind yet, here's a list of reasons to visit Yangon.
The building is built entirely with red bricks, and it has a clock tower that tops the building. The High Court Building was home to the Highest Appeals Court until 2005, and now the investors have plans to turn the building into a five-star hotel with 240 rooms with the name The State House Hotel.
Located in the midst of all the attractions, Sule Pagoda has a height of 46 meters. You can see the pagoda shot into the sky as you are getting closer and the pagoda is the traffic circle in downtown Yangon.
Yangon is full of old buildings with British architecture. They might not hold any importance as they used to, but they sure draw many tourists into the city. There's also a law that preserves the buildings that are over a hundred years old.
If you want to know what it's like to live in Yangon, you should visit the markets. These markets are always packed with vendors trying to sell and customers pacing up and down the streets looking to make a purchase. One of the major markets is Bogyoke Market which by the way used to be a black market where they exchanged currency. But now it is just a simple market place with jewellery, souvenirs and food for sale.
This is where you should go if you are in the mood for a romantic stroll. The lake is outlined by a pavement which is where you can see many couples walking up and down hand in hand. The best time to visit would be in the evening when the air is soothing.
As you may know, Chinatown in Yangon stretches over two streets; street 18 and street 24. The street food you find here is absolutely delicious and cheap – you also have the option to dine at a Chinese restaurant in Yangon. While you are there shopping, you can drop in at one of the Chinese temples that surround the market.
The Reclining Buddha is a colossal statue of Buddha that resides in Chaukhtatgyi temple. The golden figurine spreads over 65 meters and is a fantastic structure to marvel at.
This is one of the reasons why many backpackers choose Yangon as their travel destination. In addition to fancy bars and pubs, if you walk around a little, you can find many cheap bars with the rustic appeal. With these beer stations in the picture, you can have a fun evening with your friends without having to empty everyone's pockets.
Yangon is a famous tourist destination. Every day the city is packed with wandering tourists admiring what they see. To keep up the standard of the town as a major tourist hub, there is a bunch of hotels the likes of Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon. But, if your budget is not in line with a hotel like that, it's not too difficult to find a cheap motel that your budget will stretch to.
