Oman's capital city Muscat offers its visitors with a wide variety of historical landmarks, mosques and parks. Here are 6 places in Muscat that you can cover in one day.

The Al Jalali Fort

Built by the Portuguese during their time in Oman, the Al Jalali Fort was built to protect the Harbour of Muscat. from the Persians, Portuguese and the Ottoman's, the Fort has a long history of battles and conflict. It a place where several of the prominent battles over the years took place. Over time it was turned in to the main prison in Oman that housed some of it's deadliest criminals. In the present day, however, the Fort is used for government and royal events which accommodate foreign dignitaries.

The Muttrah Souq

This is one of the cities top tourist attractions that cater to both locals and foreigners. The Muttrah Souq is one of Muscat's largest market places that sells a wide variety of items such as silverware, carpets, clothing, local handicraft, Frankincense, wallets, handbags and jewellery. It's a great place for buying souvenirs and memorabilia which is commonly recommended by most tour companies and tour guides. The Muttrah Corniche

Located between harbour area between the Muttrah Fort and Muscat's fish market, the Muttrah Corniche is a Sidewalk that stretches out for about a mile. It is a must visit place if you're staying at a hotel in Muscat in the league of Al Falaj Hotel Muscat as it is one of the most scenic and photogenic places that the city has to offer. Gardens, sculptures and fountains are some of the things while taking a walk in this area. It is also a great place to see some of the exotic boats that arrive at the city's harbour.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Located away from the epicentre of Muscat near its main highway, this location is Muscat's main tourist attraction. The crystal chandelier, high spiritual energy, and the beautiful corridors are some of the reasons that make the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque the top tourist spot in Muscat. The carpet that spreads across this mosque was considered to be the largest woven carpet until a larger carpet was woven in Abu Dhabi

The Muttrah Fish Market

While most of the fish markets have the same high energy atmosphere during the morning hours what makes the Muttrah fish market is the wide variety of fish you can buy here. The sea's around Oman which is also great snorkelling has an abundance of variety and quantity of fish. While the building that houses the Muttrah fish market has a modern architectural style most of the fisherman who sells their fish here are people who've been involved in the trade for several generations.

Al Qurum Park

The Al Qurum Park which occupies a large area of land in Muscat is a great place to visit to see the greenery, sandy and rocky environments that Muscat has to offer. It is also a great place if you want to mingle with the locals as it hosts many festivals and events during the year. The yearly Muscat festival which happens between January and February which is both a state and cultural event is a great example of the festivals held at the Al Qurum park.
