Meet Pandas in Chengdu

Creators of Avatar, the science fiction film borrowed inspiration to design the floating mountains featured in the movie from the rock formations in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China. The rock formations seem to float in the air. A hike across the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park will feel like a magical walk amongst the clouds. The views will enthral you. You could take the Bailong Elevator (1070 feet tall and made of glass) for convenience.

Also known as Dunhuang Caves, the Mogao Grottoes are home to some of the finest Buddhism inspired are spanning across 1000 years. The caves depict the evolution of Buddhism inspired art in northwest China. If you are an art lover or even find history fascinating, Mogao Grottoes can take you on a journey of discovery about medieval politics, culture, trade, apparels, religion and art. The caves were once located at a crossroad (cultural) on the ancient Silk Road.

The Forbidden City once sheltered Emperors and their families of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The palatial complex contains 980 buildings covering 72 hectares. During the time of the emperors, 'commoners' were not allowed to enter the area. Today, it shelters the Palace Museum, where you can find artworks and artefacts of the two dynasties.

The sight of thousand life-sized warriors made of terracotta is an unforgettable one. The armies of China's first Emperor Qin Shi Huang still seem to guard his tomb to provide protection in his afterlife. The site was discovered as recent as 1974. Once you get to Xian to look at the warriors, stay back a while to explore the area further.
