How this works: We'll ask questions using Q1/Q2 etc. & anyone can answer using A1/A2 etc. & #RuralHealthChat. Comments and questions are welcome! Here we go!
Q1: Let’s start with the basics! Why is education and training for the #rural #healthworkforce important? How does it relate to rural health #access? #RuralHealthChat https://t.co/aJTK7EjtMD
@ruralprep Increasing awareness of the incongruity between US rural pop health needs and the specialty & geographic distribution of US providers
A1: Training #healthcare providers in rural settings encourages graduates to practice in rural settings, leading to greater access to healthcare for rural communities. #ruralhealthchat
@ruralhealthinfo The ability to provide rural residents with high-quality health care is contingent
upon an adequate supply of providers. However, the shortage and maldistribution
of physicians and other health care providers persists in rural America
@jsupplitt @ruralhealthinfo Is there a way to correct the shortage? #Telehealth seems like one viable solution. #RuralHealthChat
@otvideochat @jsupplitt @ruralhealthinfo Yes, and we need reimbursement and technology issues solved to make full use of telehealth. #ruralhealthchat
@ruralprep @jsupplitt @ruralhealthinfo Yes, that is one thing we are seeing. Not having the proper access to great cell phone services etc has been a hurdle. This issue needs to be resolved as a first step in Telehealth in rural areas along with tech issues. #ruralhealthchat
Rural Pharmacy Deserts are problematic, too! Pharmacies are not only a place to access medications, they also provide basic, preventative screenings. #RuralHealthChat https://t.co/fuHCPLuwth
More healthcare workers, education, & training are desperately needed in rural areas due to much of rural America being a hospital desert. #RuralHealthChat https://t.co/yMK4TvnK2K
A1: Rural providers may not have #access to subscription health information databases. They need to know about free health information resources that are available from @nlm_news and other reliable sources. #ruralhealthchat https://t.co/PmJEoPpGIB
Great point! #RuralHealthChat https://t.co/6y0Giuo30f
Rural healthcare workers are often reluctant to leave their homes or place of employment for training and education due to travel challenges, coverage in staffing, and costs. Online and telehealth training programs can provide accessible training for current. #RuralHealthChat
