Conveyor Belt Vulcanizing – Repairing Methods To Reduce Downtime

There are many methods of repairing conveyor belt and one of the most important among them includes Conveyor Belt vulcanizing process. These are divided into hot vulcanizing and cold vulcanizing repairs. Conveyor belts are repaired using rubber pastes or rubber cements applied on the belt spot to be repaired. The air vulcanizes it thereafter. These self vulcanizing methods come with great advantage as there is no material loss and time is saved as unexpected stoppage of belt is reduced drastically. Along with these methods rubber foils are also used for vulcanizing. These are kept in tin containers to prevent air seeping through. The drawback of the method is that entry of air into the container cannot be prevented when the container is opened each time.

In some cases soft paste is used to the damaged portion of the belt with the help of spatula. This is suitable for a large damaged spot where it is hard to reach. Using a special spatula could be cumbersome and inaccurate at times. Carrying out cold repair is exclusively dependent on the skill of the repair personnel. The foils of unvulcanized rubber come with protective paper layer or cellophane and are kept in the containers in the rolled up position. These methods are cumbersome and cannot be carried all the time as the repair patches do not bind with the damaged spot.

Moreover, the marginal zones bring premature detachment of repair patches. The self vulcanizing repair is insufficiently protected against the oxygen access and hence has to be used in an already vulcanized condition. The damaged part shows tears to the surface by allowing humidity to enter into the conveyor belt fabric and bringing from the interior of the repair patch and formation of blisters. This method will bring about reliable and fast cold repair solutions and there is no need to apply a separate paste over the damaged spot.
