Top 5 things to do in Si Racha Chonburi, Thailand - Fun things to do away from the beaches!

Known for its great party life and beaches, Thailand attracts millions of people throughout the year, and this quieter place can be overlooked sometimes. Here are a few reasons why you should give this place a chance.

1

Wing Kwai

A fun activity to watch, this is a dangerous sport played by the men in Thailand. They sit on buffaloes and race to the finish line, and because of the thrill it gives to the viewers, this is one of the most watched festivals in Thailand. The buffalo race festival has been happening for over 100 years now, and still has the same amount of fans as it did back then, maybe even more. If you are in Thailand during the month of October, head over to the Chonburi racecourse and see for yourself.

2

Wat Nong Yai

The iconic Wat Nong Yai is from the Ayutthaya period. The temple came into being when Chao Kun Yai fled from the invading Burmese, taking with him the bell from the temple in Ayutthaya. Arriving at Pik Bot Pier, or Nakula, he preceded onto Chonburi where he restored the then abandoned Wat Nong Yai, installing the bell brought with him and adding a prayer hall. The beloved temple was fully restored once more in 1906.

Cartoon Network

Did you know that Thailand was the first country in the world to feature an adventure park based solely on lovable characters from the Cartoon Network? Beat the tropical heat in Thailand with a fun day of splashing around at the Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark. This waterpark is filled with rides and activities that feature iconic cartoon legends, such as the Powerpuff Girls and of Ben 10 fame. The kids will love it, no matter what age they are. There are nine shows and five water roller coaster rides/attractions to enjoy. The park is in Najomtien, Chonburi. This is a short drive from many a service apartment in Sriracha, the likes of Citadines Grand Central Sri Racha. As with most Thai attractions, there are two different prices for locals and foreign tourists. The entrance fee for non-residents will set you back around 1,600 Baht for adults and 1,300 for children; residents pay around 300 Baht less in each case. All children under the age of three can enter for free. It is worthwhile booking ahead if you can, as the park has been known to offer special discounts on entrance fees for early bird reservations.
