The south of Sri Lanka is a must visit when you are in the island and if you are heading to Beruwalal here are some things you can while in the vicinity.

Beach

Since Sri Lanka is surrounded by the Indian Ocean it does not come as a surprise that most of the locations in Sri Lanka include a stunning beach. The Beruwala beach is one such example. If you wish to soak up the sun while enjoying the breath-taking view then the Beruwala beach is the place to go to. Most Bentota hotels such as the Cinnamon Bey Beruwala have private beach fronts and you can enjoy food and drinks while basking in the sun.

Brief Garden

The Bawa brothers are well known architects in Sri Lanka and around the world. The home which used to belong to Geoffery Bawa is now open to the public as you can go and witness the stunning landscapes and the spacious interiors that were designed by the famous architect himself. The greenery and the combination of colours are amazing to see as it is so soothing to the eye. It will take about 3 hours to 5 hours to go through the house and the garden in detail. At the entrance you can request for a guide who will explain the numerous important details of architecture and the personal life of Geoffery Bawa and his brother.

Barberyn Island Lighthouse

The Barberyn Island Lighthouse of the Beruwala lighthouse is situated less than 1 kilometre away from Beruwala. This lighthouse is one of the four international lighthouses in Sri Lanka. It is no longer functioning and you are not allowed to go inside it but the surrounding is an amazing location you wouldn't want to miss. The sea, the clear blue skies and the white lighthouse surrounded by the coconut trees that are dancing to the wind is a sight you are bound to fall in love with.

Water sports

Among the many other places that you can do water sports in Sri Lanka, Beruwala is also included. Some of the different water sports are surfing, body boarding and water boarding and depending on the season you can go snorkelling to go swim with the fish underwater. The beach is clean and there are many different places from which you can hire the equipment you need. If you are a first timer you need not worry as there are experienced locals that will be able to guide you and teach you how to make the best of your experience.

Msjid-Ul-Abrar

Beruwala is known to be the location of the first Muslim settlement in Sri Lanka. As history narrates it the first traders came and settled down in Beruwala and then built houses and so forth. The first Muslim Mosque in the island is the Msjid-Ul-Abrar and to date it is still being used. You are unable to go inside the mosque during prayer times but on other occasions you will be given a short tour and shown the various important details of the building.
