Top Things to See and Do in Sukhumvit – Bangkok's Iconic Precinct

Sukhumvit may not be home to famous attractions but has enough of a lure to be a top place to base yourself at. The place is well-loved for its collection of night-clubs, restaurants, foodie street corners, shopping malls and more. Here are the top things to do in Sukhumvit.

1

Take a Trip Around the World at Terminal 21

This is one of the city's most exciting themed malls as the place offers shoppers a chance to 'shop around the world'! Terminal 21 offers a unique theme where each section represents a country; this concept extends to the restaurants as well. So, explore the streets of Tokyo, shop at the finest London shops, explore a Turkish souk and savour delicious cuisine from across the world. The place is also home to iconic attractions from across the world such as replicas of the Golden Gate Bridge and Eiffel Tower. Terminal 21 is just 7 minutes from Maitria Hotel Sukhumvit 18, a fine example of a conveniently placed Bangkok city hotel.

Let Out the Diva in You as You Shop for Luxury at Emporium

The Emporium Mall is the best place to shop for luxurious high-end branded goods; the perfect place to feed the shopaholic in you. This ritzy mall while being a magnet for the well-heeled is also ideal to pick up some good quality high street brands and local designer goods, which are more in the average affordable range; once done you can stop at a restaurant in Sukhumvit Road to relax and gloat over your fab buys.

3

Explore the Exciting Markets

The open-air markets of Thailand are very popular for their fun vibes, bustling crowds, an exciting range of goodies and varied products. Start your tour of the markets with Soi 1 located on Sukhumvit Road. Shop along the route and make your way to the end of Soi 20. By this time your arms are going to be loaded with all sorts of goodies as the markets offer a wide range of products such as inexpensive clothes, accessories, quirky souvenirs, sunglasses, watches (knock-offs of course) and much more. One of the most unique markets to explore is Khlong Toei Market. There you can shop for cheap clothing as well as fresh cut meat, exotic fruits, vegetables, and fish. Mind you the golden rule is to haggle; it's expected and you must do so in order to score the best deal.

4

Stitch Yourself a New Suit

The tailors of Sukhumvit are famous for their talented creations and if you are going to be staying at a Sukhumvit hotel, it would be a pity to return home without that perfectly tailored new suit. Mind you check for the tailor's authenticity online and do ask around for recommendations. Chances of getting scammed too are high, so be safe and keep in mind that a proper tailor will require at least a week to stitch your suit and will require several fittings before finishing the garment.

5

Treat Your Taste-buds

Bangkok is one city you will leave gaining a few extra pounds. It's all good though and well worth it since the place is well-liked for its selection of food. From the very popular street vendor carts selling a great selection of delicious meals to the restaurants, cafes and floating markets; food takes centre stage and the locals, if you observe, spend a lot of their time enjoying mini-meals; and as the saying goes, 'when in Bangkok...' Enjoy folks!
