05 Wadis in Oman you should visit on your holiday – Stunning creations of nature

Beautiful rustic and a treat to explore the wadis of Oman are perfect to explore. So go ahead, clear those schedules and pencil in time to spend a day exploring the following environs. By the way, a wadi is a valley containing water holes.

1

Wadi Shab

Located in a place called Tiwi belonging to the Al Sharqiyah South Governate, the Wadi Shab is just under 4 hours from Oman luxury resorts located within the fabled Green Mountain region. This wadi has the added allure of a water cave which you can explore after a short 40-minute hike. Part of this rustic area can only be accessed via boat, which in addition to being a super adventure does not cost all that much. If you are driving there from Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, one of the world's highest placed resorts on Green Mountain, make a pit stop to check out the Bimmah Sink Hole. This is a 40-metre deep hole in the ground where the base is an azure blue pool.

2

Wadi Bani Khalid

This wadi is pretty popular not just for its stunning environs, but for the modern amenities of toilettes, barbeque facilities, and shady rest areas. The surroundings are blessed with coloured rock formations and a very inviting pool, which can be accessed via a set of naturally formed steps. The surrounding region is made up of plantations and villages which include coffee shops and stores for a refresher and picking up supplies if needed. By the way, this wadi is pretty popular over the weekends and crowded, there is even a lifeguard on duty.

3

Wadi Al Arbaeen

This wadi is pretty large and ideal for finding a secluded little nook to enjoy. Plenty of fresh water pools dot the area and are very inviting, besides, the area is still virgin and unspoiled - a treat to explore. A 4WD is best chosen to head out to Wadi Al Arbaeen as most of the roads are rough; finding the place is easy though, just watch out for the signs and make sure to turn down the correct road leading to the wadi.

4

Wadi Al Hawqayn

A very popular wadi, the place is home to a beautiful waterfall and springs which remains lush and flowing all-year round. One of the most accessible wadis in Oman, the place is a hub for holidaymakers on the weekends. You can, of course, leave your hotel in Oman and head out there over a weekday, for a quieter enjoyment of the place.

5

Wadi Dhum

Not as accessible as the others, Wadi Dhum is situated in the Al Dhahirah region and is only reached through some very rough terrain, hence a 4WD vehicle is a must. Part of the way is by foot across smooth boulders which tend to be very slippery, a pair of sturdy walking shoes is recommended. Go there when the weather is cooler since the wadi dries up during the hot summer months.
