Chennai Shopping: 7 places to do its best - Know where the treasures are

Chennai, the metro city of Tamil Nadu, India, is known for being the central point of entertainment, shopping, and activities in the state. For the best places to shop at in Chennai without much ado, read on.

1

T. Nagar

This shopping destination is not for the faint of hearts. Somehow crowded during all parts of the year, this area has the best of traditional and modern clothing Chennai has to offer. From household goods to electronics and everything under the sun, you can buy them here. Apart from the crowd you have to push through and survive in, bargaining skills will be of great use here too!

2

Pondy Bazaar

Right next to the bustling T. Nagar is Pondy Bazaar, a quitter, albeit still very crowded shopping district. You can find more jewellery and saree stores here, and the quaint pavement shops here are known to have some of the prettiest earrings and necklaces for prices as low as Rs.20 INR! For those staying at an apartment near Chennai CBD the likes of Somerset Greenways Chennai, this bazaar is just a few minutes away.

3

Express Avenue

Located in Royapettah, this was one of the biggest malls to be built in the focal part of the city. Most international brand stores can be found under one roof here, including MAC, Sephora, Tissot, Fossil, Mango, Charles & Keith, and more. There is a food court on the topmost floor, along with a cinema that houses more than 5 screens. You can end a day of shopping with a movie too, if you do, don't forget to try the cold coffee and popcorn with seasonings!

4

Phoenix Market City

Known for being the biggest shopping hypermarket in Chennai, this mall opened up and placed Express Avenue as the second biggest. Having way more brand stores and stores under its roof, Phoenix Market City is an entity of its own and has theatres inside too.

5

Spencer Plaza

One of the oldest buildings in Chennai, this place can be found in the old Madras black and white photographs too. Though not as popular as it was a decade ago, this mall still has loyal customers who keep going back to it. It has an old-timey feel to it, with the architecture reminding you of British and technology taking you back to the turn of the millennium.

6

Ampa Skywalk

Located just before Anna Nagar, the people of Nungambakkam usually flock here instead of heading over to the crowded Express Avenue. With its own share of brand stores and cafes, this mall is a mini version of the bigger malls in Chennai.

7

Ritchie Street

If you love unorganized tech stores that lets you bargain laptops and DSLRs, this is the place! Everything you can imagine in the tech world can be brought here, be it original or not. Go with a local who has a friend who owns a store, or you might end up paying an exorbitant price for a second copy product.
