Take pictures with the Great Buddha statue

A Japanese styled statue rising at a majestic 82 feet up from a raised dais, overlooking a serene garden. This imposing statue was unveiled by the Dalai Lama himself and represents the many disciples of Buddha. Since then, it has become a symbol of the holy city.

Walk around Mahabodhi temple complex

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mahabodhi Temple complex is a holy pilgrimage site for Buddhists. A large complex made up of several beautifully detailed structures, the locations are said to be the place where Buddha attained enlightenment. The temple is unique as it is the first temple built entirely out of brick.

Explore the Dungeshwari Cave Temples

Also known as the Mahakal caves, they are located a short drive out of the city. The temple comprises of three large caves, each containing murals of Buddhist imagery and shrines. It is believed that Buddha once mediated in one of these ancient caves. While the temple is predominantly for Buddhists, you can also find a cave with a Hindu shrine.

Get to know a bit more about this ancient city and view some magnificent artefacts at the archaeological museum. Most of the stonework consists of statues dating back to the 8th and 10th centuries. The main highlight is an assortment of pillar and railings that are said to be over 2,000 years old.
