While most people in the world mourn the loss of a loved one, the Toraja tribe believe that a person's death and their soul entering paradise is an occasion to rejoice and celebrate it with elaborate and extended funerals. Sometimes the body is held at the house for months and sometimes years so that they can collect enough money to ensure that the dead person is given a respectful and grand funeral before they are buried.

Traditional Indonesian outfits

The locals wear western clothes as they go about their day-to-day life but change into traditional Indonesian clothing for meetings, festivals and celebrations. Kebaya- a combination of blouse and dress is an example of the traditional outfits that the women in Indonesia wear. Peci- a type of headdress that Indonesian men wear is an example of the type of clothes available for men. Each region in Indonesia has their own types of traditional outfits and discovering the various types of traditional outfits that each region you visit wear is one of the most entertaining things you'll do while visiting the country.

Indonesia has 3 lush safari parks that are home to a wide variety of animals such as elephants, white tigers, sun bears, komodos and rhinoceros. The park also acts as a place to conserve flora and fauna from all over the country. Visitors who want to see the animals up close and personal will have to rent a car; the experience is totally safe as long as you don't open the windows of the vehicle.

Surrounded by the ocean, the tropical islands of Indonesia are a great place for water sports like snorkelling, surfing and diving. Indonesia is popular with surfers as the southern coast of the country has several locations that are great for novice and advanced surfers. Bali's lagoons which have lots of surfing schools is a great place if you're new to surfing and want to try the sport out. Bukit Peninsula's outbreaks are a great place to visit if you're an advanced surfer and looking for a challenge. While most people bring their own equipment, you can also rent the equipment at one of the surf schools or shops for a nominal price.
