Japan is a country with an interesting culture, owing to its ancient traditions mixing with the rapid advancement the country underwent. Here are some of the craziest places to visit here.
The Aokigahara Suicide Forest is perhaps one of the most well-known destinations in Japan. A common site for suicides, the forest is an eerie place to walk through and spend some time exploring. Take the time to understand the history of this forest as well as the modern context, in order to see the significance of the area.
This is certainly one of the most unique shows you can watch, not just in Japan but in the entire world. Spend a night watching a one and a half hour cabaret show, performed by robots! Nothing shows the wackiness of Japanese culture quite like this, so be sure to catch a show if you are travelling in Tokyo.
Anyone familiar with Japanese cuisine knows that they love their rice. This statue, which is 25 feet long and 8.8 feet thick, represents this. The statue itself is not the most interesting part; the history is fascinating too. It is said that a monk built the statue after seeing it in a dream.
This one is not for the faint of heart. This museum is dedicated to the weird world of parasites and makes for fascinating, if not weird, viewing. Visitors to the museum have the privilege of seeing the world’s longest tapeworm. If you do go, don’t plan on having a meal afterwards; you probably won’t have much of an appetite.
Located in Akihabara, this cafe is not like anything you’ve experienced before. Spend an hour in this peaceful little cafe, surrounded by all sorts of owls. Visitors describe the experience as calm and tranquil. Be warned though, that the popularity of the cafe has resulted in long queues to get in. Be sure to plan well, and consider booking your visit in advance.
Take a tour through this beautiful and scenic forest, and appreciate some of the best of the ancient Japanese culture. A trip through the Kyoto Cultural Forest will take you through Japanese temples, shrines, and ancient castles. It is a lovely way to experience the rich ancient culture of Japan.
Appreciate the splendour of this coastal town while travelling in a traditional Japanese vehicle, a rickshaw. It is an incredibly unique way of experiencing this town. Be sure to stay somewhere centralized, such as an Otaru hotel near JR station. Staying in a central location, such as Grand Park Otaru, will give you the convenience you need to fully enjoy this town.
Located in Tashirojima, this is definitely a unique place to visit. There are more cats on this island than humans, and cat-lovers will certainly enjoy a trip to the island. Japanese mythology associates cats with good luck and the fifty residents of this island are undoubtedly lucky to have such fluffy, cute neighbours. Be sure to buy plenty of cat treats before leaving the mainland, and remember, no dogs allowed!
Japan is famous for its onsens, a type of spa that is popular among locals and tourists alike. The resort takes it to another level, offering some weird and wacky treatments. Ever dreamed of taking a relaxing soak in ramen, green tea, sake, or red wine? You can do that here!
This shop will let you take back the weirdest souvenir from your trip to Japan; a 20-inch version of yourself. Scan your face, pick your outfit (choices range from Star Wars themed clothes to wedding clothing), and the factory will 3D print a scarily realistic version of yourself, scaled down to pocket-size.
