Explore the Great Wall of China

No one can leave China without a tour of the Great Wall; there is an old Chinese saying which aptly describes this notion nobody can be a true hero unless he has been on the great wall! Better known as the Long Wall or Changcheng in China, it stretches for a staggering 6,000kms. The wall stretches from the fortress of Shanhaigun on the eastern edge to Jiayuguan in the west; it passes through Beijing, Tientsin, and Hebei, which boasts the best-preserved sections of the wall, as well as, the interiors of Mongolia, Gansu, and Ningxia.

The Forbidden City and Imperial Palace

The Forbidden City is China's largest and most important complex. Located in the heart of Beijing it's also known as the Imperial Palace. Established during the Yuang Dynasty between 1271 and 1368 most of the complexes one can see today were built between 1406 and 1420. Made up of several palaces, the Forbidden City has been home to 24 Qing and Ming Emperors.

The Stone Forest

The Stone Forest also is known as Shilin is a beautiful set of limestone columns located in Yunnan Province. The park is about 90kms from Kunming the capital of Yunnan and one of the most popular excursions enjoyed when staying at hotels Kunming has to offer. You can choose from the likes of Grand Park Kunming for easy access to most of the area's attractions such as Dian Lake, Green Lake, Yuantong Temple, and Jiuxiang Scenic Region. The main entrance to the Shilin Stone Forest looks like its straight out of a mythological Chinese story, while the scenic surroundings will do more than lift your mood.

The Terracotta Army

Farmers digging wells in the outer provinces of Xiang discovered the terracotta warriors in the 1970s. Today they are China's most treasured archaeological find and famous the world over. Built to guard the tomb of the first emperor, the warriors are located within three underground pits. The collection comprises of 8,000 life-size statues of warriors, over 100 chariots and 520 odd horses; a rather impressive collection indeed!

The Summer Palace

Just 15kms from Beijing, the Imperial Summer Palace Yihe Yuan is located within over 700 acres of stunning parkland. It is one of the country's most visited attractions. Built in 1153 the place was enhanced with the breath-taking lake in the 14th century. Most notable allures at the Summer Palace include the elegant Great Theatre, the very extravagant Hall of Wellbeing and Longevity even boasting an elaborate throne and the Hall of Happiness and Longevity inlaid with scenic gardens and impressive courtyards. Wander along the pretty paths and trails and make sure you explore the ruins of the Old Summer Palace, once deemed China's most impressive work of architecture.
