A boat is a major investment and needs to be protected. Purchasing a boat cover is a must in order to keep your boat safe from bugs, birds, debris and inclement weather. Winters in Utah can be brutal; boat covers need to be able to withstand almost anything. Before you buy your boat cover, ask yourself if these questions about vital features your cover should have.
Your boat cover must be waterproof, meaning it must both resist and repel water. The cover should keep out rain, snow and humidity, as all forms of moisture, if let to sit for extended periods of time, can ruin the boat’s upholstery and electronics.
If the inside of your boat is wet and warm, mildew will grow. Mildew is a form of mold that will downright destroy upholstery and electronics. It is vital that your boat cover is mildew resistant and breathable, allowing air to pass through the fabric but not moisture.
UV protection prevents the hot Utah sun from breaking down the boat cover’s material. It also keeps the cover’s color from fading, so it will look like new even after years of use.
This is an important feature to consider for the size, shape and style of your boat, as well as how much time you want to spend putting the cover on. Choose a snap on cover for ease and convenience, or stick with the traditional tie down cover if you prefer.
Special straps will be required to keep the cover secured while you’re cruising down the highway towards one of the many lakes in Utah. Your boat cover should be trailerable.
