Maldives is a Muslim country and their weekend falls on Friday and Saturday due to religious practices. Since the work week starts on Sunday, Saturday is a public holiday and is a very busy day especially in Male. If you are planning to visit any public places such as markets or museums it is wise to schedule those for weekdays as you might find yourself among crowds if you plan to go on a Saturday.
