Do you need new wheels but have a specific budget? Buying a used car can be a way to get the biggest bang for your buck. It’s simple: After one year, a new car on average depreciates 27 percent from its sticker price; after three years, it’s worth about half. Picking out a good used car from a sea of bad ones has never been easy. We’ve created this guide to help you find the best cheap and reliable cars.
1. Skoda Yeti:
The Yeti is really an SUV, with raised ride height for easy access and a good view of the road, but it looks noticeably less chunky than much of its competition. It also had more standard features than competitors in its day, including a USB port and cruise control.
4. Volkswagen Beetle 1200:
Although designed in the 1930s, the Beetle was only produced in significant numbers after 1945. It’s now the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform, worldwide. The original was internally designated the Volkswagen Type 1, and marketed simply as the “Volkswagen,” but later models were designated VW 1200, 1300, and 1500 to indicate engine displacement. Still one of the coolest cars on the road.
5. Lexus IS Mk3:
This year’s Driver Power used champion is the Lexus IS – a car that came second last year, but now leads the pack thanks to a series of stellar scores. It didn't just come top for its reliability either, but also topping the charts for handling, comfort and drivetrain. In fact, owners had to look hard to find anything not outstanding about their Japanese 3 Series rival.
