Maaya Thila

The well-known Maaya Thila is a greatly esteemed dive site in the Maldives. This popular diving location which is equally attractive in the daytime, as well as the night-time, offers many attractions for divers. The pinnacle that you will encounter at this site extends from 20 feet to a depth of 100 feet and acts as a home for a host of marine creatures. Here you will have the opportunity to observe reef sharks, giant trevally, nurse sharks, barracuda, stingrays and more. This dive site is even more attractive at night when a mesmerising array of sea creatures emerges to feed here. Staying at one of the Maldives resorts the likes of Baros Maldives would give you easy access to this site.

Sun Island

The waters of the Maldives have acquired a reputation as an excellent place to swim in proximity to whale sharks. One of the finest locations in the islands to encounter whale sharks would be Sun Island, where these giant fish can often be spotted. You will see that Sun Island's southern coast opens out to the ocean and features a plateau which makes it easy to observe the numerous whale sharks which regularly swim by. For the best opportunity to view whale sharks, visitors should head out to Sun Island in the week preceding a full moon, when these creatures can often be spotted. Often at Sun Island scuba divers and snorkelers alike will have the opportunity to swim with whale sharks.

Broken Rock

The renowned Broken Rock can be ranked amongst the most readily recognisable dive sites to be found at South Ari Atoll. This location has earned its name due to the fact that there is a canyon here which separates the pinnacle into two separate sections. Skilled divers will have the opportunity to make their way through this huge canyon, whilst admiring the coral formations and sea fans which line the walls of the canyon. However, divers should keep in mind that immense buoyancy will be required for this dive as the ocean currents within the canyon may be unpredictable.

Lord Nelson Wreck

The Lord Nelson wreck is a modern sunken ship; the wreck had occurred as recently as the year 2000. The site is already thriving in marine life, however, and is a spectacular sight to behold. There is countless flora enveloping the wreck and plenty of fishes and other marine fauna living amidst it. The best part about the dive, however, is that it is frequented by Mantas!

Amed in East Bali

This is a dive site which is open to divers of various skill levels. You can take a transfer to the site from Kuta, which is roughly two hours away; and is ideal for a day trip. In the area, you will find Jemeluk Bay and Amed Beach for chilling out and enjoying the warm sunshine, when not exploring the deep. Visibility at this dive site is excellent, all year round, look forward to sights of coral reef walls in varied hues, dense growths of gorgonian gardens and 35-meter drop-offs, which you can dive into from the traditional wooden jukung crafts, which will take you out there. At Amed, one is treated to sights of parrot fish, sea turtles, barracuda and stingrays.
