Henderson Fishing Spots Near Las Vegas

People come to Las Vegas to enjoy the night life, the casinos, and the fancy clubs. For some tourists however, this can get them burned out really fast, and they'll start looking for alternative forms of entertainment right away. Thankfully, the area has plenty of options for that.

It may not look like it, but Las Vegas and its environs actually have hidden spots where more enterprising tourists can take some time off to get some fishing time.

Henderson Fishing Spots Near Las Vegas | 89044 Vegas

Here is a selection of fishing spots that both Las Vegas tourists and Henderson luxury property owners can go to in their free time.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Aside from being the go-to spot for the outdoors-type locals and tourists, the Lake Mead National Recreational Area is also one of the largest fishing locations in Southern Nevada. With over 290 miles of water spread across its two lakes (Lake Mead and Lake Mohave) and multiple fishing options to go with (shore, pier, or watercraft fishing), fly fishers can catch striped bass, crappies, channel catfish and bluegills to their heart's content, 24 hours a day. Just remember that the area straddles the states of Nevada and Arizona, so bring fishing licenses for both and remember each state's fishing rules.

Sunset Park Pond

One of three urban ponds in the area, Sunset Park Pond is a 14-acre self-sustaining urban pond in the heart of Sunset Park that offers anglers with a large selection of fish species to hook in. From its primary population of rainbow trout and channel catfish, to other sizable breeds like largemouth bass and redear sunfish. There are restrictions in place, however, and anglers can only fish from the shoreline, cannot use flotation devices and boats, and cannot fish overnight. A good spot to go to for casual weekend fly-fishing without going far from the city center.

Lorenzi Park Pond is situated in the historical Twin Lakes area, a natural watershed that was once a major spring system before Vegas was fully developed. It is one of the smallest urban ponds in the area, at only three acres' worth of fishing space. Rainbow trout and channel catfish are abundant and restocked regularly.

Much like Sunset Park Pond, Lorenzi Park Pond prohibits flotation devices and boats, overnight fishing, and fishing away from the shore. There are picnic spots, tables and barbecues available for those who prefer to use fishing time as family time.

The last of the three urban ponds, Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs' fishing spot is actually an interconnected network of four smaller ponds. It offers the same variety of game for anglers to catch, but it sets itself apart from the other two urban ponds through its unique setup of having the ponds set at different elevations. Do remember to bring your wallet as admission costs $6.

Cold Creek Pond

For those preferring to angle in an out-of-the-way spot away from the city and the bigger fishing areas, Cold Creek Pond is the place to go. Located in the confines of the Spring Mountain Range, this spot requires one to hike a bit to reach the 14-acre fishing reservoir. Cold Creek Pond is usually stocked with the regular rainbow trout, but the occasional largemouth bass can show up every now and then. A definite go-to spot for quiet, out-of-the-way fishing enthusiasts.
