Best restaurants in Port Douglas - A variety of cuisine by the sea

Being a coastal town, the crowning glory in the culinary world of Port Douglas is seafood. There is such variety and creativity here, that you will never be wanting for options.

1

2 Fish

2 Fish is a mid-range restaurant in Port Douglas that specializes in seafood. The difference is their speciality is a modern take on the classical ingredient, and not sticking by the old favourites. If you want to try something truly Australian, base yourself at Oaks Lagoons and try the barramundi, or splash out, or coral trout, or mud crab from the set menu at 2 Fish. It is one of the few restaurants that do matching wine pairings for their food. There are two serving times all through the week, for lunch and for dinner. Lunch service is between 12 noon and 2 pm, while the dinner service starts at 5.30 pm and ends at 9 pm.

2

Watergate

If unusual meat is your forte, especially if you are uniquely Australian food, head over to the main street in Port Douglas and make your way to Watergate. Here you will find crocodile san choy bau, kangaroo loin, and even macadamia-encrusted eggplant. Whatever that you can call uniquely Australian, you will be able to find here. Pick a drink from the extensive wine list at Watergate and you are set to go. Similar to 2 Fish, Watergate also has two service times: lunch and dinner. Lunch service is between noon and 2 pm, and the dinner service is between 5.30 pm and 10 pm.

Sassi La Cucina e Bar

A little different to other restaurants on this list, Sassi La Cucina e Bar is an Italian restaurant located on Macrossan St. It is right in the middle of Port Douglas, and can be easily accessed. If you want the most extensive menu the restaurant offers, you need to go for their dinner service, which is between 5 pm and 9 pm. One of the most popular pasta dishes is the Tagliatelle Nero Con Gamberi, which is squid ink tagliatelle with prawns. The lunch service, if you would rather that, is between 12 noon and 3 pm.

4

On the Inlet

On the Inlet is one of the most romantic restaurants you can find in Port Douglas, a cosy place by the sea. Most of their platters can be shared between two. The ideal date would be a sharing of the chilled seafood platter by the sea, and a Mars sundae for added sweetness. On the Inlet is open from noon to midnight, thus making it one of the more flexible restaurants around.

5

Zipangu

Zipangu is a small restaurant located on Davidson St., that does not look like much from the outside. It is a Japanese restaurant that is well-known among the locals for their amazing array of sushi. If you are looking for a place to eat that won't break the bank, but where the food is simply out of this world, Zipangu is the place to go. One of the great things about the restaurant is that they make great bento boxes that you can take away. So, if you want to have your sushi in the comfort a family resort in Port Douglas or just sitting by the sea, you can simply do that.
