Said to be the oldest building in the city – built in 1787 – Dubai Museum is located in Al Fahidi Fort. The museum was established in 1971 with the intention of demonstrating how their ancestors conducted their lives. There's a display of ancient artefacts – of which the origins can be traced back to Africa and Asia. Some of the exhibits date back to 3000 B.C. In the last decade, the number of tourists visiting the museum skyrocketed. To give you some perspective – in 2007, the museum received 600,000 visitors, and there were 80,000 visitors in the month of March 2008 alone, by 2013, the yearly total increased up to 1 million.
