Top 5 Scuba Diving Destinations in the World - For the novice and the expert

There is a whole world underwater that is waiting for you to come explore. When it comes to scuba diving, these are some of the best places to be.

1

Malaysia

While Malaysia may not be on the best-known list, Barracuda Point on Sipadan Island is one of the best places for scuba diving. As is evident by the name, you will be surrounded by barracuda when you go diving here. The best part is, the barracuda attract sharks to the corals, which means you will be surrounded by sharks during your dive. Apart from these large predators, you will also see jacks, white tips, and turtles. It is not an easy dive, though, as the currents can be quite strong.

2

Australia

There are many places for a good dive in Australia, as is to be expected. Out of the many, the Yongala is one place you must not miss. It is a shipwreck that is located off the coast of Queensland, that is currently bursting with colourful life. There are sea snakes, manta rays, turtles, octopuses, tiger sharks, bull sharks, and a stunning variety of corals. The history of the Yongala is rather sad, though. The ship sank in 1911 during a cyclone and took 122 people with it. If you like history and character in your dives, this is the best place for you.

3

The Maldives

More of a relaxed vacation destination with room to explore the world underwater, it is a great place to visit as a family. Best resorts in the Maldives for families are many and spread across a wide spectrum of budget and facilities, so you are sure to find something to fit whatever needs and wants you to have. Some of the luxury resorts such as Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort offer diving guidance and packages, making it one of the best places to visit for beginners. The currents are manageable, the water is warm, and the colourful nature of the underwater world in the Maldives is enough to nudge your interest awake.

4

The Egyptian Red Sea

The Egyptian Red Sea has several interesting diving points, especially if you are looking for more than marine life. Thistlegorm is one of the better-known attractions, a large British vessel that was sunk in 1941. It was a cargo ship carrying war supplies and has a unique experience for those deciding to take a dive. The currents at the wreck and at the surface can be in different directions, though, which makes it not suitable for beginners.

5

Hawaii

Portrayed as an ideal vacation destination in movies and song, Hawaii is the place to go if you are looking for gorgeous underwater creatures. From colourful plankton to massive manta rays to clear waters, it is the perfect formula to pique your interest in the art of scuba diving. The density of creatures is such that, you will often have to twist and turn to avoid hitting a lazy manta ray going about its business. It is also a good place to visit with the family, as the waters are not too rough for the kids.
