When in Sri Lanka, you can find numerous opportunities to sink your feet into the soft, sun-warmed sand or look for the perfect wave to surf. Yes, the island nation is blessed with many beautiful beaches.

Bentota

Along the beautiful Bentota beach, a luxurious lineup of hotels and resorts has sprung up. If you want to spend an indulgent holiday, a beach_ resort Bentota_ is probably one of the best options. You can spend your time getting pampered at a spa, dining on freshly caught seafood and lounging by the beach. The beach is located on the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. Thambapanni beach features in an ancient legend about the history of Sri Lanka. To this day, the coppery beach retains a deep sense of peace from a bygone era. The beach is flanked by cliffs and there are exquisite coves scattered around amongst the isolated stretches of sand. You can spend hours gazing at the play of light over the cliffs and let serenity engulf you.

Madiha beach

Madiha beach is home to a relatively unknown surf point called the Turtle point. The compact beach is surrounded by elegant coconut trees. The waves at the Turtle point swells up to 350 meters all year around. Madiha is a more secretive neighbour of the more popular Mirissa but it can rival the Mirissa beach in its beauty and appeal. If you are not a surf enthusiast, simply take a stroll along the quiet beach, let the gentle waves lap against your bare feet and explore the sleepy coastal village.

Kalmunai Beach

Kalmunai beach offers visitors a spectacular view of the deep blue ocean and an enticing stretch of vibrant marine life. Located in Ampara in the east coast of Sri Lanka, Kalmunai beach is easily accessible through the well-developed road network. Once you get there, don't forget to hire some diving or snorkelling gear to explore the world of sea creatures. Crab hunters too frequent the sea near Kalmunai beach. If you are lucky, you will be able to catch a glimpse of them.

Arugam Bay

The challenging waves of Arugam Bay beckon surf enthusiasts to frequent the area. They even organize surf competitions annually. The best time to surf in Arugam Bay falls in between the months of May to September. Surfers swear by waves that hit the beach in July, August and September. But, if you travel to the area during the offseason, you can still have a pretty good beach holiday, piling up on seafood, exploring the region and soaking up the sun.
