Latin America really does have everything to offer when it comes to finding the perfect holiday. From vibrant cultures to thought-provoking history, amazing beaches, forests, lush jungles, mountains, lovely coffee and of course wine, there is so much to experience. Having researched much of South America, here are the top 5 destinations on my bucket list and what I think makes them so appealing.

If world class steak and top-notch red wine is your thing, Argentina is the place to go! Beyond this though it has so much more to offer – home to the mighty Iguazu Falls, verdant rainforests, snow-capped mountains, and of course, the tango – Argentina has something for everyone and it’s clear to see why this is a popular destination for young backpackers, honeymooners and more mature travellers alike.

For Beauty: Peru.

For Beauty: Peru.

Peru looks like a photographers’ paradise with the Inca Trail and Nasca Lines being some of the most photographed locations in the world. Best known for its amazing hiking and ancient pyramids and settlements, there is in fact much more to Peru including its interesting cuisine. Peru’s cuisines is wide and varied given its multicultural history and diverse climate that creates regional variations in dishes. Just some of the typical dishes of Peru include Ceviche – marinated raw fish, Papa Rellena - potatoes stuffed with meat, eggs and olives, and Lomo Saltado – stir fried beef with herbs and spices. Yum!

For Latin America First-Timers: Panama.

For Latin America First-Timers: Panama.

As one of the more developed and forward-thinking countries in the region, is a great option for those who may seek more comfortable and familiar amenities and so is a great option for families with small children. Panama’s numerous cities all offer something different. For example, if music and arts is your scene, Boquete is just the ticket.

Popular with Panamanians and tourists alike, scenic Boquete sits close to Costa Rica and is a popular tourist destination. Accommodation in Boquete caters for all needs with a variety of options from hostels and luxury hotels to eco lodges. Coffee Farms, picturesque highland ‘cloud forests,’ jungles, wildlife, amazing food and adventure activities are just some of the highlights of a trip to Panama.
