Top 5 monetized games 2019

Which games do monetization the right way? Which don't? Find out here! Listed below are some of the absolutely BEST models of monetizing a game, and these are just a few examples chosen to represent a whole group of games with similar monetization techniques.

1

Fortnite

Fortnite

Now obviously, this list would never exist without Fortnite. Fortnite has borderline redefined how games are monetized, with "exclusive" skins only being available a certain amount of time, to super-exclusive skins only packages with new phones (GALAXY? WHERE THE IPHONE SKINS AT, EPIC?)

And of course, they are making a LOT of money.

2

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

Amidst all the drama of Activision-Blizzard these days, and despite making terrible new game decisions, World of Wacraft was one of the first AAA-games that had the stomach to have a monetary subscription per month. Across all these years, one could only imagine how much money Blizzard made (as they were privately owned at launch).

In 2019, World of Wacraft are gearing themselves after Epic's example, with a lot of mounts and visual bling being able to be purchased in game.

3

Roblox

Roblox

Funny 2019 still has a game completely geared towards children as one of the highest grossing. When I was a kid, Minecraft was THE game to own. Now, having the best clothes and items in Roblox makes you king of the schoolyard. In kindergarten.

However, even in this game you can see how obviosuly monetization has shifted. Roblox is free to play, but the ability to spend LOADS of money is present in dang near every server. What else can you expect?

Look at this video titled Roblox Funny 2019, where a fedora is actually sold for over $3000.

When games geared toward children are monetized this heavily, you know a trend is on the rise.

4

Call of Duty (COD)

Call of Duty (COD)

Another way to monetize game goes back to the simple;

RELEASE A TONNE OF THEM. While each and every CoD game bring it's own feeling to the franchise, the coding burden to release a new one (I can only imagine..) being fairly light. The creative work is done, and it's just number crunching.

5

FIFA

FIFA

Here's the king of the shadow. Have you ever heard of a FIFA pro?

Well, me neither, however there really is such a thing. And they make a LOT of money.

How? They SPEND a lot of money. Imagine football cards, but the players on the card all of a sudden belong to your team, and the stats of the best players are MONUMENTALLY better than the "OK" players. Now imagine you can buy PACKS of these player cards. That's FIFA, and they are BATHING IN CASH.

Oh and did I mention they release a new game every year? ... Yeah. new game, new cards, LOTS OF MONEY.
