The best hotels in Hong Kong - How to go about choosing your place of stay?

Choosing the right place to stay is on top of many traveller's priority lists. When doing so, there are few factors to look into. Here's a list of things you need to check out when choosing your abode in Hong Kong.

1

Location

Out of all the factors that are looked into before choosing your hotel, the one that tops the list is the location. Most tourists look into how close the hotel is to the places they want to check out. Some places of accommodation often tell you how far or close they are from the city centre or the airport in miles or kilometres. But one thing to note is that this isn't a big city and therefore the distance does not count much. Locals often measure the distances to places by time rather than measurement of length. In some instances, hotels provide shuttle services if they are not conveniently located. This might be quite welcoming, however, keep in mind that these shuttle services operate at their times meaning you might have to wait around for your next drop off and schedule activities according to their shuttle service times. The best way to travel around Hong Kong will be to use their very convenient MTR or the subway. Therefore, always find out how far the hotel is from the MTR station. If its walking distance away, then you are in good hands. If you are looking for accommodation around subway stations in Hong Kong, Kowloon east; hotels the likes of Dorsett Kwun Tong are located a short walk away from the MTR station. The main locations in Hong Kong include the Central, Wan Chai and the Admiralty. These are actually quite close to each other and if you are taking the subway they are all located five minutes train ride away.

Room size

Another aspect tourists look into are the room sizes. Hotel rooms in this city are mostly small. If you are not going to be comfortable with that arrangement and want bigger rooms, then you will have to pay a higher price for it.

3

Wheelchair access

If you or a close one requires wheelchairs during your travels, then this is another aspect to find out as some hotels do not have wheelchair access.

4

Busy Street

Before booking your hotel, look into the area and find out how busy it is. There are some areas in Hong Kong that are jam-packed where only public buses can get into. Taxis may drop you off close to the hotel if this is the case.

5

Types of accommodation

Hong Kong provides four types of accommodation to its visitors namely hotels, holiday apartments, guesthouses and camps. It is up to you to choose one of your likings.

6

Special Days

If you are travelling during peak times where festivities are occurring, like New Year's Eve or during the Chinese New Year, then be prepared for some roads to be closed off. There are hotels around these areas that offer views of the fireworks displays you can opt to stay at.
