3 Top things to do in Koh Samui - Island life galore!

Thailand's second largest island has a lot to boast about from fauna to beautiful beaches and even an amazing party scene. Let's check out the top 3 things to do in Koh Samui.

1

Take A Boat to Ang Thong National Marine Park

Visiting the Ang Thong National Marine Park is no walking affair, you'll have to catch a boat which leaves from Koh Samui to get to this park. The Ang Thong National Marine Park is an archipelago that is made up of 42 islands that sit in the Gulf of Thailand. This area spans an impressive hundred kilometres and consists of jungles, white sandy beaches, mountains, waterfalls, lakes and even coves that you can explore on your trip here. Being a protected area, it is home to many varieties of exotic creatures. When you visit, you can opt to camp the night on any one of the islands by hiring a tent. An interesting tidbit to note would be that this location was part of the novel "The Beach" by English author Alex Garland, which saw its backpackers set up camp here. For the film, however, they ended up shooting on Koh Phi Phi.

2

See a Mummified Monk at Wat Khunaram

If you're looking for something exciting and intriguing, look no further than Wat Khunaram. At this place, you will find the preserved body of a Buddhist monk named Luong Pordaeng who passed away in 1973 whilst being in a seated meditative position. His body has been preserved and is displayed in a glass case here. 40 years later, the body is still in good condition with absolutely no signs of degradation. Unlike the western world, death isn't a feared concept in this part of the land as they believe it to be one step away from enlightenment. The sight of the monk gives them a thought to reflect on. You'll find many local and international tourists visiting the Wat Khunaram temple to observe the body, pray and make merit. All visitors are warmly welcome at the premises.

3

Go For A Hike At Elephant Rock

While this rock bears no resemblance to an actual living elephant, it is named Elephant Rock due to the sheer size of its rock formation. You'll find Elephant Rock located in-between Lamai Beach and Chawang. The rock and its surrounding area is known to be quite peaceful so if you feel like you need some time to get away from all the hustle of the city, this is the perfect place to check out. You'll come across many spots to go for a hike within this area and if you make it to the summit, you'll witness one of the most magnificent views of the Gulf of Thailand. If you're looking for Koh Samui hotels to stay in while you check out this list, you'll find plenty of places to choose from, Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort being one such example.
