Koh Phangan: More than just a party island - Lights out, Adventure on!

Koh Phangan is well known around the world for its atmosphere for parties and nightlife, however, there lie other amazing things to do here. Let's check out a list of them.

1

Get Your Ohm On

Isn't pretty ironic that after most crazy binge drinking nights, people almost always look for peace and quiet quite immediately, especially opting to spends days on end meditation. Due to its hippie vibe, Koh Phangan makes for the perfect spot for its plentiful yoga retreats and centres. You can get your ohm on by checking out a few of these yoga classes. There'll be many to choose from, while what mostly comes recommended from tourists are the detox programs offered across the island. When you're looking for a hotel, Koh Phangan presents a myriad of options to choose from. One such example would be the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas.

2

Go Trekking in Koh Phangan

If lounging has gotten you tired for some reason, and you're craving some adventure, all you need to do is head on a great trek by the Eastern coastline of the island. You'll be able to head up the tallest mountain in all of Khao Ra or you can even head towards the Phaeng Waterfall National Park. Awaiting you at the top of Khao Ra is an absolutely breathtaking view of the neighbouring island of Koh Tao. It is advised that you only trek by yourself if you are experienced as it's easy to get lost on the trail here. It's also best that you bring some snacks as well as water to keep you hydrated. For those who are inexperienced, you can easily have a guide accompany you by contacting the National Park.

3

Get Active in Koh Phangan

The Challenge Phangan waterpark allows you to have an experience quite similar in nature to what is offered on the TV show Wipeout. Located in Seetanu, this course is a massive rush of adrenaline pumping fun and even humiliation if you fall or end up in a belly flop. It is easy to feel invincible after a few tries around the obstacle course and jumps. Apart from the main offering here, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy various other activities such as kitesurfing or even paddle boarding. If you've never done kitesurfing before, it comes highly recommended by both locals and tourists alike.

4

Go Chasing Waterfalls

Regardless of whatever you've seen on TV, chasing waterfalls is an incredibly fun activity in Koh Phangan. There a total of around seven different waterfalls in the region which are all relatively close to the main towns. Something to note is that a majority of these waterfalls dry up during each rainy season, so you best plan your trip accordingly. Some excellent waterfalls to check out are Sramanora, Phaeng, Thaan Prapaad, Wangsai, Thaan Prawes, Paradise and Thaan Sadet.

5

Go Diving

While most people consider the neighbouring island of Koh Tao for diving, most sites visited from there are the same from Koh Phangan. Some excellent sites to explore that are halfway in the middle are Snail Rock and the Southwest Pinnacle. Beaches in Haad Ya and Haas Salad present perfect opportunities to go snorkelling.
