Things to do in Queenstown - From bungy jumping to snowboarding

Queenstown in New Zealand offers the curious, eager visitor a number of fun things to do and great places to eat at while enjoying spectacular scenic views. Here's a helpful list.

1

Bob's Peak

Bob's Peak is said to be a destination of its own, offering visitors a plethora of activities, from paragliding to biking trails. The easiest way to get here is to hop aboard the cable car, also known as the Skyline Gondola, which takes you approximately 450 metres over Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown. For the more adventurous and physically fit, opt to hike along the Tiki Trail, which begins at the bottom of the cable car and takes you along pine forests until you reach the summit of Bob's Peak. The hike should take around 45 -60 minutes, depending on your level of physical fitness. Once you there, you can try out the Skyline Luge, a cart designed to take you around at your own pace while offering you amazing views of your surroundings. You can even try out the Ledge Bungy or a tandem paraglide flight. At night, enrol in the stargazing tour or sit back and watch a Maori cultural performance or the Kiwi Haka performances.

2

Queenstown Gardens

A botanical garden which is home to numerous exotic and endemic flora is a great place to visit if you're looking to spend the day with family or friends. The first two trees were planted in 1866 by the Mayor of Queenstown. You can partake in a game of tennis, skateboarding, lawn bowls, skate, ice skating and disc golf to while away the time. Pack a picnic and make a day of it as you sit under the shade of a tree and munch into a scrumptious sandwich or two. If you're staying at Oaks Club Resort or any of the other nearby many a Queenstown resort, the gardens are less than 10 minutes away.

3

The Valley of Vines

The best way to explore the Valley of Vines is by bikes. Cycle through vineyards and maybe even slot in wine tasting during the day. Meet the winemakers and taste the exquisite wines made here before heading back to Queenstown, located approximately 20 minutes away.

4

Snowboarding & Skiing

Queenstown is idyllically located in the centre of the Southern Alps, making it the perfect destination for skiers and snowboarders. Ski season beings from June and lasts until October. There are said to be four ski areas available for visitors of all ages and skill levels. Once you're done for the day, unwind at a local bar or restaurant while watching the sunset over the towering peaks. Most of the equipment rental shops, whether it's for skis or snowboards are open every day until 9 pm.

The surrounding views of mountains and lakes are spectacular and there is more than one way of exploring its beauty, visitors can kayak or jet ski along Lake Wakatipu, enjoy a scenic flight over the mountains or a fast-paced white-water rafting experience on the Kawarau River.
