Top 5 best activities in the Maldives - An abundance of fun!

The Maldives is nothing short of mesmerizing and the same goes to its offering of activities and adventure. Here is a list of some of the most fun activities that you can enjoy here.

1

Scuba Diving

The Maldives can often be found on the top of most tourist's destinations in the world for scuba diving. With a brilliant selection of PADI centres, you'll come across creatures like sharks, sailfish, turtles and even rays. Manta rays and whale sharks make an appearance as well along with a good selection of wrecks that you can explore. With all the reefs, the warm inviting temperature and beautiful crystal-clear waters, you may not even need to use a wetsuit. Excellent sites include Fish Head in the North Ari Atoll, Banana Reef in the North Male Atoll as well as Sun Island and Maaya Thila in the South Ari Atoll.

2

Snorkelling

While scuba diving may not be to everyone's liking, snorkelling can be a great alternative. The reefs here are so pristine that you don't even need to go very deep to see its wonders. As you strap on your snorkel and mask and set off for a couple of hours, you'll spot some gorgeous creatures like rays, turtles and reef sharks. This is definitely an exciting and popular activity amongst those who visit. If you're on the lookout for a great Maldives island resort, there are plenty of choices here that are popular, like Grand Park Kodhipparu for example.

3

Surfing

Considering that the Maldives is one of the most sought-after destinations for surfing, it comes as no surprise that it boasts a long surf season, all the way from March to November. It is also super convenient since most resorts are located near top breaks. Cinnamon Dhonveli is a great break that doesn't have too much of a crowd. The Maldives is also home to various international surf competitions. Don't let this put you off, however, because even if you aren't a pro, you'll find plenty of small waves where you can learn the basics or improve. Whatever level you are, surfing can be a fun-filled activity during your vacation in the Maldives.

4

Windsurfing

The water sports don't just simply stop there. With great wave spots and flat water, the Maldives is also an excellent location for windsurfing. The Olhuveli Sommer spot is the general launch as it is a standing depth lagoon that is a kilometre long. While there are many more spots like that, make sure the water has enough depth in it for your fins, and definitely be on the lookout for shallow reefs. Nalaguraidhoo and Dhidhoofinolhu are some other excellent choices. You'll also be able to easily find windsurfing boat trips that start right from the capital city of Male.

5

Kitesurfing

Dotted across the islands, you'll see many dedicated kitesurfing centres as well. While the winds are not great, the months between May and October are suitable. With shallow warm waters, kitesurfing is a wonderful activity to include in your itinerary on your vacation to the Maldives.
