These diets are designed for people who want to lose weight fast. Express diets lower the daily caloric intake to the minimum, basically starving the dieter. Starvation can cause nausea, headaches, weakness and constipation. Plus, after the diet has ended, the dieter will just re-gain the weight.
Mono-diets require that the dieter eat just one type of low-calorie food for an entire week, excluding sugar, salt and spices. Diets like this leave the dieter’s body completely malnourished, weakening the bones and immune system, and putting the dieter at high risk for serious illness. Personal trainers accredited by a Utah college recommend that dieters increase their fruit and vegetable intake, as well as eat enough complex carbs, such as whole grains, and low-fat, protein rich foods.
This diet makes dieters cut down on carbohydrates like grains, fruits and veggies, and increase their protein intake with lots of meat. Diets like this can cause extreme metabolic disorders, cause damage to the heart and liver, and even have negative effects on the reproductive system.
Though dieters love the thought that they can eat all the candy they want and still get thin, nutritionists and personal trainers with knowledge gained from a Utah college don’t recommend it. The sweet diet tells dieters to give up food completely and eat only hard candies or chocolate. Sounds delicious, but this diet can cause serious gastritis, ulcers, metabolic disorders, and damage the pancreas and liver.
