Hakgala Botanical Gardens

Hakgala is to Sri Lanka what Eden is to the heavens. Reputed for its ever present blooms, Hakgala has an enchanting feel and is one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire island. In fact this is also one of the oldest gardens in Sri Lanka that was set up by the British back in the 19th century. In addition to couples and families, Hakgala is a very significant place among botanists since the flora found here are rich in variety and some go as far back as 100 years ago. There is also a strong English feel within this garden for many of the typical flowers found in any English Cottage can be spotted here.

Devon Falls

The Devon falls is one of the most famous water falls in Nuwereliya. Flowing down a height of 97 meters the falls has a majestic appearance and is named after Devon who was Sri Lanka's leading coffee planter. The water fall is located some 6 Km west of Thalawakelle and if you want to spend some time admiring its appearance best head to the special viewing spot situated at the 20th mile post.

Gregory's Lake

Located in the heart of this city, this sprawling lake has waters that sparkle like crystals and is Nuwara Eliya's most famous picnic spot. The Gregory's Lake in its entirety is well landscaped and its precincts have recently been renovated making it even more appealing. Horse riding is very popular along the lake and at a price you can hire horses and ponies at an hourly rate to witness the scenic wonders that this town has in store. For children there are plenty of entertaining facilities available here, making it a must visit spot for those visiting with little ones. You could also try the boat rides at the lakes for tranquil scenery surrounding makes this a very relaxing experience.

Horton Plains

It is a bit of a drive getting to the Horton Plains but if you are a nature enthusiast this is one place that must not be missed. Be prepared though to have the walk of your life for the entire length of the walk stretches up to 8 kilometres. However throughout your journey you will witness some of the most picturesque sceneries made of a combination of forest and flat land that is awe inspiring to say the least. The highlight of the Horton's plains is the stunning world End which is a 1000 meter drop from this mountain top. After exploring Horton Plains come home to the Scottish Planter Glendevon Bungalow. This is among the most popular holiday bungalows in Nuwara Eliya.

Golf Club Nuwara Eliya

Located at the heart of the Nuwereliya Town this golf course is spread across 90 acres. The golf club is over a 100 years old and happens to be one of the city's biggest attractions. In fact it is reputed to be the only Golf Course where all the holes are visible from the Club House and also accessible by car.
