List of materials and steps used to make industrial tires - An Inside look

Tires are an interesting part of your vehicle, believe it or not, and a lot of work goes into making the perfect tires to hit the road. Here is a list of materials and steps that are involved in making these tires.

1

Materials

Although tires look like they are easily made, it is not, and the process is quite complex demanding attention at every step of its production. The tire is subjected to elements that are three hundred times its weight and goes through a range of temperatures from -50°C to 80°C. On top of that, to make a single tire you need more than two hundred raw materials.

2

Blend

The rubbery part of your tire requires a blend of around 30 different types of rubber, fillers and other items. All these ingredients are obtained and mixed thoroughly in a gigantic bender. The finishing product is a dark coloured gummy textured material which is then sent for milling. Exceptional material handling for tires needs to be undertaken to produce high-quality tires. If you're looking for such a place, check the GRI Tires for a good experience.

Mill

The gummy rubber is then made into strips which takes the basic foundation of the tire. During the milling process, other ingredients which are required for the tire is also made.

4

Build

This is the part of the production procedure where you start making the actual tire. For this, you need to acquire materials like the beads, steel belts, tread, ply and other parts which are all inserted into the machine. The ply is the different layers of fabric which build the skeleton of your tire. These are typically fibre cords that are stitched together after which a coating of rubber is poured on it. The plies make the tire more flexible but don't give it an elastic texture. Another part of the tire is the beads which are made out of braided steel of tensile strength that is also coated with rubber. The beads help to create an airtight space between the rim of your wheel and the tire. Belts are made out of steel and are positioned surrounding the tire which helps to keep the tires strong and rigid. The tread, on the other hand, is the soft part that comes in contact with the road. The rib is the weakest part of your tire and is found at the centre and it is required to provide reinforcement. With all these parts placed in the machine, where everything is placed and positioned, the output is called the 'green tire'.

5

Cure

In this part of the process, the green tire undergoes treatment in a curing machine that contains hot moulds. The machine compresses all these parts of the tire together and gives its characteristic shape. This also includes the pattern on the tread.

6

Inspect

Finally, professional inspectors will use special equipment to analyse each tire for any imperfections and blemishes. In addition, some of the tires are taken out to check for any failures or weaknesses that would have been incurred during the manufacturing process.
