This is a list that captures the top ten classroom tools that I would use in my future classroom.
Kahoot is a fun interactive tool that serves as an assessment that can easily be given to the students. Kahoot is free, and has multiple functions. If you are looking for fast results and high participation Kahoot is the way to go. Kahoot makes quizzes feel like a game and help the student feel comfortable. Kahoot can be played solo mode and group mode depending on what you want for your class you have the option to choose. Kahoot is a timed game and the timing is also something you choose. The timing can go as little as 30 seconds up to two minutes to allow the students time to think about their answers. For Kahoot you can create a quiz or you can search for one that has already been made online.
Trying to figure out what students drew in class is sometimes hard or even impossible without their help well the solution for this is AutoDraw. AutoDraw is a free computer based drawing program. This program allows students to draw anything they want and the top tab allows them to choose the closest representation of what they drew to be replaced by a painting of an artist, this makes the drawings easier to understand. One of the things that this app does not have is the ability for the students to save their work or progress, they can only send the drawings through email. Another thing that I love about this program is that the students are able to type underneath the picture.
Class Dojo is a free app in which students can share class progress and communicate with parents. This can be seen as a reward system in which the teacher chooses the categories in which to reward the students. The teacher is in contact with every parent and this is a good motive for the students. Parents are told what the students do in class and can see pictures. The students have an incentive to behave and get points so it all balances out.
Brain Pop is a website which allows teachers to choose videos that are educational. These videos can cover any topic for example the water cycle. Brain pop allows you to also play quizzes after the video to test understanding. These videos are engaging and funny for the students. This website has no pop up ads and has some free lessons. Although, not all the things on brain pop are free they are very good for remediation on a subject.
Photomath is a free app that is of great assistance for anyone on any math problem. Photo Math provides the answer fast and also gives great steps on how the answer was reached. With photomath if there is a problem you are struggling with photomath you take a picture of the problem and within seconds your answer appears. Photomath can solve as simple addition problem up to a calculus problem. One thing photomath cannot help with is word problems. Photo math after giving you the answer gives step by step instruction on how to do it, there is written steps for more assistance if still confused. Photomath can be used in the class after some math problems have been done as a tool to check the students work.
Quizlet is an online website and app that is free to use by anyone. Quizlet gets rid of the old boring flash cards and helps to study for a test. With quizlet you put the words you need to practice as well as definitions and this app makes them into small review games. The feature of flashcards is still there if that is what is preferred. There is matching games, quick quizzes, short responses and fill in the blank. This app is simple to use and there is a search bar for quizzes already made. Some teachers use quizlet as a form of assessment and are able to collect grades others influence students to use this app to study.
That Quiz is an app that serves as a quick assessment. The benefits of this app is that the grading, their is premade quizzes, the quizzes can be done in different languages and this app is free. This app is not as interesting as the rest and can be confusing for students.
FlipGrid studnets to interact with classmates or even people around the world. Teachers will give the students a topic to discuss and the students respond to one another with videos. This app has filters and is fun. The only way to participate in a discussion is if you are given the code to enter the conversation. Students can also type responses if camera shy.
