Biological wastewater treatment is a globally practiced process for treating wastewater. This process involves adding naturally occurring bacteria to the wastewater tanks in a dense quantity. These bacteria, together with some protozoa and other microbes, collectively referred to as activated sludge, are treated in an ‘anaerobic’ and ‘aerobic’ process. They are finally returned to the anaerobic phase to eliminate sludge production and waste.
