Pizza

This dish takes most people by surprise. The Zanzibar pizza is a peculiar dish. The origin of this is uncertain but it is certain that this, tastes incredible. A ball of fish or meat is mixed with chopped onions, peppers, mayonnaise, cheese and eggs. This mixture is fried in a thin dough and finally topped with tomato and chilli sauce. Biriyani

Food in Zanzibar is considered spicy and this dish shows how tangy the food can really get. Biriyani was originated in Pakistan and India. Sorpotel

This is a curry that combines the Indian and Portuguese cuisines. Chicken liver and other meats are chopped into bite-sized pieces. Then they are boiled and afterwards, spices, masala, vinegar and tamarind are added. The meat is stewed for somewhere around an hour and served hot. Sorpotel is something like an Indian chicken curry. You can try it with rice or flatbread.

Urojo

This dish is unique to Zanzibar. This is a kind of soup made with seasoned coconut milk. Falafel, onion, boiled eggs, bhajias, kachori, cassava chips, chilli and coconut chutney and peppers are added to the soup later. Chickpeas and lentils play a major role in this dish. Urojo is a little like ramen. Some restaurants add mango or lemon to flavour this dish. Urojo too originated from India, so it is mildly spicy and yet bursts with flavour.
