7 best local restaurants in Hong Kong- Eat like a local

Dining is an essential activity in the food-centric destination that is Hong Kong. It certainly seals the overall experience of your stay in Hong Kong. Here are a few local restaurants to try.

1

Lin Heung Tea House

This is where you can get authentic dim sums the way they were made in the 1950s. The waiters go around the restaurant pushing a cart that is piled with bamboo baskets containing different varieties of dim sums. Just stop them and point at what you want. If you want a wider variety, they also have an order sheet from which you can choose.

2

Sing Lum Khui

How about some spicy and sour pork noodle soup? This is the best local place that serves this dish and is quite easy to locate as it is right next to the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. Fill up an order form and get yourself a bowl of noodle soup the way you would like it.

3

Under Bridge Spicy Crab

This restaurant rose to fame after it was visited by Anthony Bourdain. The restaurant in Wanchai is very popular for its delicious fresh and spicy crab that is served along deep fried garlic and chilli. They also serve other seafood like shrimps and mussels.

4

Tim Ho Wan

This is the only very easily affordable Michelin-starred restaurant. Due to this reason, it is constantly packed with people who come here to enjoy the popular, flavourful dim sum. All the Tim Ho Wan branches have a no reservation policy due to their very high demand. So, you might have to wait for an hour or so until you get a table, but it most certainly is worth it. One of the branches is located less than 30 minutes away from the Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong.

5

Yat Lok

This is a restaurant that serves a variety of roasted meats out of which the roast goose is what attracts people from all over the country. It is a mundane dining experience. However, the food is definitely over the top and will not disappoint you. It is open every day from 10 am to 9 pm except on Sundays and public holidays when they close at 5:30 pm

6

Kau Kee Beef Noodle Soup

This is an authentic Hong Kong noodle dish with yellow egg noodles and beef briskets. The broth is very rich in flavour and the beef is perfectly cooked and tender. It is very popular and therefore, there is a queue almost always. However, it does move pretty fast and you won't have to wait longer than fifteen minutes to get a table.

7

Sai Kung Seafood

This joint located in New Territories is one of the best places to sample local seafood which is served fresh. Head over to the seafront promenade where you can choose your main dish that is freshly caught and take it to any of the restaurants where they will be made the way you prefer it. From deck to plate, this certainly is the only time you will get to enjoy fresh seafood.
