Within Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, you will find the city of Polonnaruwa, one of the nation's richest archaeological heritage sites. This reminds us of Sri Lanka's true heritage which dates back over two thousand five hundred years. Being a testimony to the greatness as well as the discipline of the Kingdom's first rulers, this ancient city is considered one of the best planned archaeological relic sites in all of Sri Lanka. So much so that it has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It is believed to have been one of the country's most beautiful kingdoms based on all the parks, sacred places, shrines and massive buildings that it contained. If you're a fan of Duran Duran, you'd notice the city used a backdrop in the music video for "Save a Prayer" in 1982.
