Beneficial Ways to Spend a Gap Year!

Can you believe we are nearly at the end of 2018? I cannot believe how fast this year has gone! My cousin is already thinking of New Year resolutions for her Gap year, so I thought I would help her along with some achievable goals to make it her best and most beneficial year yet!

1

Work Experience

Work Experience

Internships and volunteering in the sector that you want to move into will be so beneficial for when looking for employment. Businesses love those who have gone the extra mile to show their dedication to the role. Internships can be found on online and whilst most are unpaid, it will give you such a great foundation and key skills you will need to excel in the future!

Travelling & Studying

Travelling & Studying

Most who take a gap year, take time off to travel and explore the world before kick starting their education or new career path. This is a fantastic way to learn about different cultures which will also look fantastic to future employers as it shows you can communicate with people for all kinds of backgrounds. They are also super fun too, whether it is a Summer camp in America or you are backpacking around seeing where the wind takes you – it’s all such a fun and rewarding education!

Becoming Tidier

Becoming Tidier

As you make the transition into your new path it’s time for out with the old, in with the new! Declutter your room, getting rid of all old things that you will never been needing again. All those folders of months revision that you are never going to look at again to having a declutter of your beauty products. You will be surprised at how great you feel afterwards! Minimalism has definitely taken over and if you are not quite ready to rid your space of nearly everything, you could think about taking some pointers for the revolution because that are super helpful!

Spend more time with loved ones

Spend more time with loved ones

Before you know it, time will start going so fast and you wont even realise how much full time work can eat your time up. My advice to my cousin is to spend as much time as you can with loved ones and those who matter. Distance yourself from those who are toxic and make you unhappy because life is too short to not be happy and content! Keep those who care and don’t waste time on those who don’t.

Start saving

Start saving

This is probably more of a boring one for those going on a gap year, however saving money is something that everyone should start doing as soon as possible! Putting aside a little or a lot (up to you!) a month will enable you to have some funds in case of an emergency during university or when you are looking for a job. Or if you have big plans like a car or being a homeowner, this can help you head in the right direction too!

From travelling to spending time with others, this is only a small selection of things you could be pledging to do in the your Gap Year. New Year resolutions are a great way to set yourself goals to achieve… hopefully my cousin will be taking some notes!
