Technology tools I learned about in my EDU 228 class at Saint Leo University that I will use in my future classroom

Class Dojo

Class Dojo

Class Dojo is a great communication tool that allows for easy class management and allows students to gain or lose points based on how their day went. The students and teachers can sign in, watch short five minute videos, gain or lose points, set timers, and even message parents about their child. This tool substitutes a note home and augments the classroom. Class Dojo also has a story tool and is set up like a children's facebook. The only downfall to this tool is some of your children may not be able to have their pictures taken and it would be hard to use without technology.

Kahoot

Kahoot is an assessment tool that allows you to create and play multiple choice games. It is a way for you to test peers or students on material that was presented to the class and allows for a friendly competition. This also allows you to see what information your students need help on and what they have mastered, keeps your students engaged, and if everyone has the correct technology then everyone can play. Lastly it include all of the 4 c's and Augments the quizzes you give to your students.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a great alternative to discussion posts. it is an app that allows you to post videos rather than discussion posts. Flipgrid allows you to think out loud and is a great summarizing tool for children. Flipgrid allows students to get comfortable talking in front of the camera and allows the student to use their first language. Lastly Flipgrid benefits both the student and the teacher allowing both to communicate effectively.

Quizlet

Quizlet is a studying tool that allows students to create their own flashcards. It is a great studying tool for students using flashcards, games, etc. to help make studying fun. It encourages studying among students and is a creative way for them to gain information. The students can either make their own flashcards or use ones already made to study. The students can also collaborate with each other in order to make the flashcards to study.

Story Jumper is a website that allows students to create their own books or stories. The students can use their own voice to make an ebook and to make it personal. This is a great tool that allows the students to be creative while also write a book. It is great for all ages and grades because the level of book depends on how the child creates it. It is easy to follow for the younger children and allows you to skip around pages while creating.

Classtag is a great interactive tool that allows for effective parent-teacher communication. It allows you to see events going on in the classroom and RSVP for them, organizes the activity, and offers a reward system for the children. It shows the teacher when someone sees the post and is simple and effective. Classtag is a great way to involve the parents into your classroom and interact with everyone. Lastly Classtag is free and easy to use in any classroom.

Autodraw

Autodraw is a free website where you can draw anything. It is a drawing tool that replaces artwork someone does. It is easy to use and their are no pop up ads. It allows you to communicate and collaborate with others by sharing your drawings. You can use it on any electronic device and allows the children to be creative.

Starfall Reading

Starfall Reading is a reading fundamental tool that helps children gain knowledge in reading. It offers corresponding activities to the readings the students complete. Starfall is interactive, colorful, and engaging. It offers four levels and has a sign language option. It also has a read aloud option and their is always an activity to do.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is a tutoring service that helps students learn and grasp information better. There are 2,000 videos to chose from and allows you to progress at your own pace. It offers a kid version and a tool for writing. Khan Academy is free and there are no ads or subscriptions. Lastly Khan Academy has an endless amount of subjects to help students in any subject they are struggling in.

Brain Pop is a great learning tool that offers videos, activities, and quizzes. It is a great alternative to paper and pencil tests and provides a fun lesson for the children to learn the information. Brain Pop can be used for any grade level because it offers a kid version as well. It is an fun way to teach a lesson so the students will not get bored easy. Lastly the students can work together to complete the quiz and can also offer a friendly competition between students.
