Bring the Fun Home

Every kid, no matter what their age loves going to an arcade. But, instead, why not bring the games to them? You can do so by purchasing arcade game classics such as Pac-Man, an air hockey table, or a pinball machine and start converting your basement or garage into a home arcade.

1

Amusements

Even though you are making a large purchase, think of how many quarters (and time) you will save by not having to drive the family to the arcade down the road. Below are a few highly popular and fun games for your kids to play.

2

Don't Tilt

The flashy lights of pinball machines are just the start to any home arcade. From classics such as The Black Knight to newer machines such as X-Men Magneto, pinball machines are staples at any arcade. Try to play as long as you can by earning extra balls. Also, hit as many targets as possible. The more targets you hit and balls you earn, the higher your score. Just remember not to tilt!

3

Invade Space

You don’t want to forget about the upright classics. Space Invaders, released in 1978, was one of the earliest shooting games, but remains a fan favorite. If you want to return to the roots of fighting aliens, this is the game for you.

4

Fight the Ghosts

Another fan favorite (and classic) is the Pac-Man arcade machine. No matter which era you were born in, you know Pac-Man, which was released in 1980. This game was so popular that the character appeared in over 30 officially licensed spinoff games (Ms. Pac-Man anyone?)

Just why is this game so popular, though? Maybe it’s because anyone can play. All you have to do is guide Pac-Man through a maze, eating dots along the way, while trying to avoid the “ghosts” of Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. If Pac-Man eats a power pellet then he’s able to eat the enemies, even if just for a short time.

Other Fun Items

If you have the room, why not include some table games? Pool tables and air hockey tables are thrilling games for friends to play. If you don’t have a lot of space, why not hang up a dart board? You can even include some of today’s gaming systems if you wish. Systems such as Wii and X-Box make for a fun time with friends.

6

Dance, Dance

While everyone is having fun, chances are you will have music playing in the background. Don’t just plug in your iPod. Invest in a jukebox and play popular songs from the old days while also incorporating some of today’s hottest songs. Your friends can go over to it at any time and punch in the song selection. If you get tired of these games, you could always start a dance party.

No matter what games you decide to invest in, a home arcade is a great idea. Not only will the kids have a place to go when they are bored, but you know where they are and you won’t have to dig for quarters to give them. Arcade rooms are even great for the “older” kids, men especially. Who knows, this may just be the man cave he always wanted.
